Sri Maha Mariamman and Ramar Temple, Bukit Cermin Division, Jasin Lalang Estate, Jasin, has been in existence for the past 150 years, originally under Dunlop. IOI Group then took over the estate before it was sold to GLM EMERLAND INDUSTRIAL PARK SDN. BHD in year 2000, with IOI PLANTATION SERVICES managing the estate until Botanic Parkland took over to develop the housing estate now known as Bukit Cermin.
This temple is not only a place of worship but has also emerged as a heritage landmark since the arrival of the third generation of migrants from India who settled and worked in the estate. These migrants planted their roots here with their families, and the temple has since served as a place of worship and congregation. The temple society was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on 10 August 1983, led by a dedicated team who managed the daily and yearly prayers and the temple’s affairs.
In 1994, the people of the estate had to relocate, yet the temple’s sanctity and all poojas and religious ceremonies continued as if they had never left. The Adipuram Thiruvilla is celebrated grandly every year with a chariot procession, along with Rama Navami, the Puratasi month celebrations, and Hanuman Jayanthi carried on a palanquin (palakku). To this day, descendants of the original estate community continue to worship here, their devotion unparalleled across more than 150 years.
History of Sri Rama Temple
- Rama temple originated from Kadalayam and is estimated to be founded more than 150 years ago.
- The temple was shifted to Bukit Cermin 100 years ago.
- Prayers and ceremonies were conducted with the God’s image until the year 1990.
- The temple was renovated in 1990 and God’s image was replaced with statues.
- Maha Kumbhabhisegam was held grandly in 1991 by Ramachandran Gurukal.
- Rama Navami, Puratasi and Hanuman Jayanthi are celebrated grandly every year with palakku carried by devotees.
History of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
- In 1987, the Maha Mariamman Temple was renovated and the Maha Kumbhabhisegam was conducted by Siva Sri Muthukumara Gurukkal.
- Followed by 48 days of Mandala Abhisegam and Sanga Abhisegam.
- Since then, all major festivals including Adi Puram are conducted by the current committee every year.
Temple Current Details
Currently, the temple is home to seven presiding deities. The temple society continues to serve the spiritual needs of the Hindu community in Jasin and surrounding areas.
Presiding Deities
As the temple was located on the estate owner’s land, the management felt the temple should have its own individual title to ensure its continuity for generations to come, requiring the land to be acquired from the new owner and developer. The management, together with their Tiruppani Sub-committee — Mr. Gobee Achudan, Mr. Vasudevan, and Ms. Vijay Pillai — held numerous meetings with Parkland Avenue Sdn Bhd, and through divine intervention and blessings, Parkland graciously allocated a piece of land to relocate the temple under its own individual title, and pledged substantial funding towards the construction of the new temple. We are eternally grateful to Parkland for this benevolent act towards the temple and its devotees. On 7 July 2023, the Vastu Yantra Pooja for the new temple was conducted by renowned Vastu scientist Mr. Balachander, and construction was expected to commence in December 2023/January 2024.
