Throughout the Tamil calendar year, Maha Rajyam Temple celebrates a rich cycle of festivals and sacred observances — each connecting the community to their divine heritage.

Tamil Month Adi
July – August

Adi Puram Thiruvilla

MAIN ANNUAL FESTIVAL

The most important and celebrated annual festival at Maha Rajyam Temple, honouring the birthday of Goddess Maha Mariamman. This grand celebration spans multiple days, drawing devotees from across Melaka and beyond.

The festival includes elaborate decorations of the temple, special abhishegam (ritual baths) for the deity, Kavadi processions, grand chariot (ther) procession through the estate, traditional music and cultural performances, and community feast (annadhanam) for all devotees. The celebration culminates in a spectacular evening procession.

Chaitra Month (March–April)

Rama Navami

Celebrating the birthday of Lord Sri Rama, this festival includes a grand palakku (palanquin) procession of the deity through the estate, special abishegam, Ramayana recitation, and devotional bhajans. The entire community participates in the joyful celebrations throughout the day and evening.

Tamil Month Purattasi (Sept–Oct)

Puratasi Prayers

Every Saturday during the auspicious Tamil month of Purattasi, special prayers and offerings are made to Lord Vishnu and Sri Rama. This monthly observance draws large numbers of devotees who fast and participate in special prayers. Prasadam (sacred food) is distributed to all worshippers.

Vaikasi Month (May–June)

Hanuman Jayanthi

The birthday of Lord Hanuman, the devoted servant of Sri Rama. The celebration includes recitation of Sundara Kandam (a chapter of the Ramayana describing Hanuman’s heroic deeds), special abhishegam, and distribution of prasadam including traditional Hanuman prasad of bananas and vadai.

Avani Month (Aug–Sept)

Vinayagar Chathurthi

The birthday of Lord Vinayagar (Ganesha), celebrated with great enthusiasm. Clay idols are installed, special prayers and abhishegam performed, and modak (sweet dumplings) offered as prasad. The festival concludes with the immersion of clay idols in water — symbolising the return of the divine to nature.

Aippasi Month (Oct–Nov)

Deepavali

The Festival of Lights — celebrating the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The temple is beautifully lit with thousands of oil lamps (diyas). Special prayers are offered for prosperity and the removal of spiritual darkness from the lives of devotees and their families.
